29/10 "A heavenly concert"
Motets by Bach and Brahms, this week still to be heard in Nijmegen, Kampen and Lochem.
Last Friday Cappella Amsterdam performed the programme Unparalelled B-motets (Bach and Brahms) in Assen and Vlissingen, the Netherlands.
Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad wrote about the first concert which took place on 18 September 2012 at the Muziekgebouw aan t IJ in Amsterdam: "Unparalelled B-motets is an ambitious programme (...):motets by Bach and Brahms. Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied was an example of clarity and elasticity. (...) The devilish modulations of Brahms Wo ist eins o herrlich Volk were stunningly sung, which bodes well for the concerts to come." (NRC Handelsblad, 19 September.)
According to a review of the concert in Vlissingen that took place on 28 October "[a] performance of vocal ensemble Cappella Amsterdam is a gift. The various voice colours blend beautifully. (...) Bachs motets were performed with style and respect for Bach. (...) Brahms Fest und Gedenksprüche sounded festive and the double canon of the lively and decisive Wenn ein startker Gewappneter came about clear and pure. Warum ist das Lich was a magnificent finale. (...). A heavenly concert. (Provinciale Zeeuwse Courant, 29 October.)
Come and listen yourself! On Wednesday 31 October at Concertgebouw De Vereeniging in Nijmegen, on Friday 2 November at Bovenkerk in Kampen and Sunday afternoon (4 November) at Grote Kerk in Lochem.
