Missa Solemnis

Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw en Cappella Amsterdam conducted by Daniel Reuss

Carolyn Sampson - soprano
Marianne Beate Kielland - alt
Thomas Walker - tenor
David Wilson-Johnson - bariton

Beethovens Missa Solemnis is considered as the early-romantic compeer of the other giant of Masses: the Hohe Messe by Bach. Beethoven thought that with the Missa Solemnis he wrote his greatest work. Not without reason, the cast is comparable with that of his Ninth Symphony. Impressive but also spirited music. Beethovens deepest wish: ‘Von Herzen, möge es zu Herzen gehen.’
